Isolator and configuration instructions for integrating the battery system into the Victron data bus
Our battery systems basically function even without data communication; this is not absolutely necessary for operation.
However, if you wish to integrate our kits into the Victron data bus, you have two options:
a) Use of a Victron measuring shunt
You can use a Victron shunt (e.g., BMV-712 or comparable models). This is simply installed in the negative lead of the battery terminal. The shunt precisely measures the charging and discharging currents and transmits the determined state of charge to the Victron system. This solution allows for quick and easy implementation. A suitable shunt is available from your Victron dealer.
b) Direct data transmission from the Battery Management System to the Victron data bus
If you want to feed the battery's BMS data directly into the Victron data bus, a special isolator (as offered and described here) is absolutely essential for safe operation. This device ensures galvanic isolation between the battery system and the data bus. Never connect the battery system to the Victron data bus without this insulator.
The galvanic isolator comes with configuration instructions for setting up the Cerbo GX. To follow these instructions, you should have sound computer skills and a strong aptitude for technology.

This isolator is not required for our complete battery systems, as all components for direct data communication are already integrated and pre-configured. The isolator is only relevant if you want to connect a kit to a Victron system.
