Are batteries with Lifepo4 technology safe?

Yes. Our modern LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries are considered one of the safest battery technologies. The cell chemistry is particularly stable and mechanically robust. Unlike other lithium batteries, LiFePO4 cell chemistry does not release its own oxygen when overheated or damaged, thus contributing significantly to a high level of safety.

What are the main components of a PV system?

A typical PV system essentially consists of the following four components:

The energy generated by the solar panels is converted to battery voltage by a battery charger, sent to the battery, and stored there. The inverter then draws the energy from the battery and converts it into standard household electricity, just like you get from your wall socket.

Is the battery protected against over/deep discharge?

Yes. Our complete batteries and battery kits incorporate technically coordinated battery management systems (BMS). These systems automatically monitor all important battery parameters and intervene in the current flow as needed. They protect the battery cells from overcharging and deep discharging, excessively high and low temperatures, feature an active balancing function, and much more. These devices are therefore essential for the safe and long-lasting operation of the batteries.

Do the batteries contain an active cell balancer?

Yes. Both our kits and our complete batteries each contain modern and powerful active cell balancing.

This function ensures that the individual battery cells are optimally balanced, thus achieving the best possible capacity and lifespan. This process happens fully automatically, so you as the user don't need to worry about it.

Are the batteries ready for use?

Complete battery: Our complete batteries are fully assembled and ready for immediate use. You can simply connect them and use the battery.

kits: These batteries can be assembled quickly and easily using the very detailed instructions. Simply follow the step-by-step, precisely described and illustrated instructions, and you will soon have a high-quality battery with all the necessary functions and safety features. Naturally, all the essential components for safe operation and proper assembly are included, so you can get started immediately upon receiving the kits. The kits are conveniently delivered in several well-packaged boxes, making them easy to carry.

Are the battery kits easy to assemble?

Yes. You don't need any special tools to assemble the battery kits. The kit includes a special 6Nm torque wrench for perfect tightening of the battery terminals and all other accessories necessary for a safe battery and your complete product satisfaction. The enclosed and very detailed German assembly instructions leave no questions unanswered.&Wwishes open and guides you step-by-step through the assembly process. Each step is described in detail and illustrated with pictures, so you can easily create a high-quality, high-performance LiFePO4 battery. No special technical knowledge is required. However, you should have a minimum level of interest in technology and follow the instructions step by step.

Note regarding our complete batteries: These are built in our factory in Freising, are fully configured and adjusted. The complete batteries are delivered ready for connection – no assembly is required.

Which battery cells are installed?

We use industrial-grade, high-quality battery cells from one of the world's largest battery manufacturers: EVE Energy. These battery cells are the heart of a battery and are sourced directly from the manufacturer in industrial-grade quality. Both our battery kits and complete batteries contain only these high-quality battery cells, ensuring that all our customers can enjoy our meticulously engineered batteries for a very long time.

What advantages do Lifepo4 battery cells have over lead batteries?

LiFePO4 battery cells offer numerous advantages over conventional lead-acid batteries. They have a significantly longer lifespan with several thousand charge cycles and can utilize a much larger portion of their capacity without sustaining damage. At the same time, they are considerably lighter and more compact, deliver a stable voltage even under high loads, and operate with very high efficiency. LiFePO4 batteries charge faster, are completely maintenance-free, and exhibit a particularly high level of safety. Furthermore, by eliminating the use of lead and acid, they are more environmentally friendly and more economical in the long run than conventional lead-acid batteries.

Can I connect several batteries in parallel?

Yes. A key advantage of our batteries (both kits and complete batteries) is that they can easily be connected in parallel with identical batteries, even at a later date. This makes your system quick and easy to expand and adapt to your needs. For this, we recommend using busbars.

Which inverters can the complete battery communicate with?

Our batteries (kits and complete batteries) function in the classic way with positive and negative terminals, even without data communication. Data communication is not absolutely necessary for the battery to operate.

Our complete battery system, in particular, offers a wide range of data communication options, allowing it to communicate with the inverter. A list of compatible inverters and their manufacturers can be found here: List of compatible inverters

For both versions (complete battery and kits), you can also use a measuring shunt. These devices measure the current flow very accurately and can then directly feed the measured data into the corresponding overall system.

What is the capacity of the batteries?

The energy of a battery can be calculated as follows: Nominal voltage [V] x Number of cells x (capacity per cell [Ah]/1000)

Example:
The battery consists of 16 cells with a nominal voltage of 3.2V and 333Ah per battery cell; the calculation is as follows:
3.2V x 16 x (333 Ah/1000) = 17.05 kWh

Thus, such a battery has a usable energy of 17.05 kWh.

Can I put the battery on the side?

Complete batteries: Please arrange them in the classic way as shown on the product page. This way you can easily stack multiple batteries.

Kits: You can set up the kit in the classic way, as shown on the product page, or on its side (long edge facing down). However, do not set up the kit vertically, as this can reduce the lifespan of the battery cells.

Can I operate my battery in winter?

The integrated battery management system (BMS) in our batteries protects the battery cells from excessively high or low temperatures. It features multiple temperature sensors that continuously monitor the battery temperature. Discharging LiFePO4 cells below 0°C is not a problem. However, for chemical reasons, they should not be charged below 0°C. Therefore, the BMS detects this condition and, if necessary, shuts off the charging function until the temperature rises above the required level. This ensures the long-term and safe operation of your battery. The BMS monitors all parameters necessary for the safe operation of the battery and its cells.

All essential information can be conveniently accessed via the free app (kit) or read directly from the integrated color touchscreen (complete battery). This is made possible by the modern battery management system integrated into each battery. It displays information such as: state of charge, individual cell voltages, total voltage, temperatures, currents, and much more.

How can I connect my battery pack to my Victron Cerbo GX?

The simplest and cheapest option is to use a Victron measuring shunt, e.g. the BMV-712. It detects the state of charge and transmits this directly to the Victron system.

What does thermal runaway mean and how are our Lifepo4 battery cells protected?

"Thermal Runaway" describes uncontrolled overheating, which can lead to fire or explosion in some batteries.

We place particular emphasis on the highest safety standards for the battery cells we use. Even under extreme conditions such as overheating or incorrect operation, the proven LiFePO4 battery cell exhibits controlled safety behavior. In the tested thermal runaway test, neither fire nor explosion occurred – a crucial advantage for safe use in demanding applications such as in homes, caravans, or campers.
